Jefferson Banner - Opinion Wal-Mart - Olsen vs. Beyer |
This is the written complaint filed by Olsen at the Jefferson Police Department on July 29, 2005, and the incident report created by the Police Chief. On July 19, 2005, I was at the Landmark Bar in Jefferson (138 5. Main Street), socializing with a friend and watching the baseball game. Sometime between 9 and 10 p.m. Margaret “Peg” Beyer, who resides at 623 5. Center Avenue in Jefferson, came into the bar, walked up to me and said in a loud, angry voice, “Olsen, you’re a fucking liar.” There were at least three other patrons in the bar, along with the bartender, at the time. Jefferson Municipal Code 9.06(1) prohibits this act of disorderly conduct. [signature David Olsen] Witness [signature] Ordinance 9.06 states: 9.06 DISORDERLY CONDUCT PROHIBITED . No person shall within the City: ORDERLY CONDUCT 9.06(1) (1) In any public or private place engage in violent, abusive, indecent, profane, boisterous, unreasonably loud or otherwise disorderly conduct which tends to cause or provoke an immediate disturbance of public order or tends to disturb or annoy other persons. (2) Intentionally cause, provoke or engage in any fight, brawl, riot or noisy altercation other than a bona fide athletic contest. Ph: (920) 674-3844 David Olsen who is an alderman with the City of Jefferson came to the Police Department and said he would like to file a complaint against fellow alderman Margaret (Peggy) Beyer. Olsen said that after the City of Jefferson council meeting on July 19, 2005 he and fellow alderman John C. Wagner went to the Landmark Saloon located on South Main Street in the City of Jefferson. While Wagner and Olsen were being waited on by bartender Thomas Giorgi Beyer came in to Landmark and in a loud voice said, "Olsen, you are a fucking liar". Beyer was not happy with Olsen because at a press conference earlier in the day he stated that Wal-Mart representatives told him if he voted for an annexation they would fund his next campaign. Olsen believes that Beyer thinks that because she changed her vote on this annexation that he was implying that she was influenced by Wal-Mart to change her vote. Olsen said that he has researched the state statutes and because this was a public place with several patrons inside who heard this swearing by Beyer he believes that she should be charged with disorderly conduct. I told Olsen that I would do an initial report and turn this complaint over to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for their investigation. Chief Bleecker 6411 cc: JESO ala |
