David Olsen Jefferson Commerce and Industry Association Jefferson Development Corporation Jefferson Chamber of Commerce May 10, 1999 Dear Mr. Olsen, I would like to attend the next meeting of the Commerce and Industry Association. As I understand, it will be held tomorrow, Tuesday May 11, at 4:30 p.m. in the Carnegie Building. If it's not, please alert me. I'd like to make myself available to answer questions from the CIA Board of Directors regarding my request for open meetings of the CIA and Jefferson Development Corporation. I've spoken with Mayor Arnold Brawders and asked to attend this meeting. He welcomed my attendance. Secondly, I'd like to request a written clarification of the status of my prospective membership in the JDC. Has the JDC Board made a decision yet? I have not received any response to my letter of April 20, in which I asked to attend the meeting on May 18. Also, I'd like a written clarification of the process by which anyone else could join the JDC in the future, such as what is required to join, whether prospective members must be approved by the Board in some way, and exactly at what point is someone considered to be a member, etc. In my examination of the JDC by-laws, the answers to these questions are not apparent. As I said in my previous letter, the by-laws seem to indicate that all you need to do is ask to become a member. Also, how are members of the JDC (both Board and regular members) notified of the time and location of meetings of the Board? Finally, I enclose a copy of my notes on the organization of the CIA, JDC, and Chamber. If you see anything that is incorrect, please alert me. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 674-5200 during the day, or 674-3661 at home. Sincerely, John Foust Cc: David Schornack |
